Sharks at Men's Hockey Super Cup

(Barrie, ON) On March 20, the Sharks played in their final tournament of the 2017-18 season. The Georgian Grizzlies hosted 12 teams at two arenas in the annual Men's Hockey Super Cup in Barrie.

Game 1
It a hard-fought defensive battle, it was the Sharks who came away with a 2-0 victory over Humber - Lakeshore. Jesse Fontaine scored in the first period to give SLC, burying a bouncing rebound, and the Sharks held on for the remaining two periods. St. Lawrence was just able to hold off the Hawks, killing off two back-to-back penalties at the end of the second period to hold a one-goal lead in the final frame.

With five minutes remaining, it appeared as though the Hawks had tied the game but the officials had not called the goal and instead the game remained 1-0 for the Sharks, with a face offensuing in the SLC defensive zone. Taylor Eamonadded the empy-netter to secure the 2-0 victory for St. Lawrence. Sam Mainville recorded the shutout

Game 2
The Sharks finished off group play with a 4-3 victory over Trent, clinching first place in their division and earning a spot in the quarterfinals in a game that saw SLC get goals from four different players. Ryan Cooper, Matt Chretien and Jacob Latour each scored their first of the day.Eamongot his second goal of the tournament.

St. Lawrence Cornwall will play McMaster in the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals
In the quarterfinals, the small roster of 10 players started to show for the Sharks, as they began to lose some of their energy. McMaster ran away with a 5-1 victory, but St. Lawrence put gave it everything they could, hitting the crossbar and getting a few great looks at the goal that they just couldn't bury. MikaelDobson scored the lone Sharks goal in the loss.

"We definitely saw a big improvement, winning our first two games to be the top seed in our pool," said Head Coach Rob Kennedy. "We battled hard, but just didn't get the breaks in the quarterfinal that could have swung the game in our favour. Playing three games with 10 players is a challenge butoverall it was a good end to the season. We look forward to building on this success next year."
