GOLF | Headed to Nationals after Bronze finish for Women

Surge varsity golf held their own at the 2022 OCAA Golf Championships on October 3-5 in Niagara.

Led by returning golfers Bryson McCulloch, Ashley Clark, and Shannon Godin, both the men’s and women’s impressed new coaches Brennan Smith and Matt Horton.

The men’s side finished 5th place in Division 1 with a team score of 985. Georgian took home the bronze with a score +121. Rookie Dylan MacLeod (Carleton Place) topped all Surge golfers with a +19 (T17th) finish after three rounds of play. Bryson (Kingston) finished right behind him with a +22 (19th) finish followed by Jack Gill (+38, 25th, Amherstview), Jeremy Allen (+42, T27th, Sydenham) and Jacob Wilson (+78, 46th, Kingston).

Ashley and Shannon earned themselves a 3rd place finish and OCAA Bronze medal with their total team score of +221 over three rounds. Both Ashley (Napanee) and Shannon (Pembroke) played their best tournament in varsity golf with Ashley finishing 9th overall with a +80 score and Shannon finishing 11th with a +141 score.

OFF TO NATIONALS

Ashley Clark, as well as the men’s team will be travelling to Nationals hosted by Durham College on October 17-21 after qualifying for the top tournament in the country.
