OCR Surge Hockey was in Action in Brantford
Both Surge hockey teams were in action last weekend at the Branford-Laurier Invitational in Brantford.
The women’s team started the tournament hot with a 6-0 win over the host, Laurier-Brantford. Riding high, they underestimated Ontario Tech and fell flat in a 7-0 loss in their second game of the tournament. Heading into their final game against a tough Humber side, Surge rebounded for an exciting finish, but ultimately fell 3-2 to the eventual tournament winners.
Men’s hockey succumbed to a similar fate as the women’s team against Humber. Heading into the final frame tied 2-2, the men seemingly lost wind and let in four unanswered goals in a 6-2 loss. The 3rd period collapse fueled the Surge forward as they bounced back with two 3-1 victories against Georgian and Redeemer. Their 2-1 record placed them in the semis in a rematch against Redeemer, where a late penalty call to the Surge would lead to the Royals to the tying goal. The 2-2 game was decided in the shootout where Redeemer came out on top.
