Surge Men's Indoor Cricket off to hot start in OCR

The newly formed Surge men’s cricket team took to the road last Friday to compete in their first ever indoor cricket event.

Humber North played host to a number of Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR) teams in Etobicoke. It was the second cricket event of the year, but first for the Surge.

Head coach, Malcolm Anderson, was excited to see the team play, as they had only practiced until now.  Surge would find success in their first ever game, beating Mohawk 48-43.

“It was a great start to the season for us. And it was awesome to win SLC’s first ever cricket match,” said Anderson.

In their second match-up, against a non-OCR team and thus not affecting standings, Surge lost to Loyalist-Toronto in tightly contested 32-31 game. In their final game of the event, St. Lawrence took home another win, beating Loyalist-Belleville to officially end the day with a 2-0 record showing great promise for the new program.

“I saw some great plays from the guys and with the learnings from this first tournament experience playing other teams we’ll be even better in our next tournament in two weeks' time,” added Anderson.

The team travels to Mississauga (UTM) on November 25th for their next indoor cricket event.
