A top 25 finish in Canada for Catherine Irwin

Cross-Country runner, Catherine Irwin, and her coaches travelled to a cold, snowy Medicine Hat, Alberta this past weekend to compete in the 2022 National Cross-Country Championship.

Irwin qualified for the national competition after finishing second overall in Ontario at the provincial championships a few weeks back. Her silver medal finish earned her a top spot in Alberta, where she would hang on for a top 25 finish in the country.

Her 23rd overall finish this year wasn’t where Catherine hoped to place, but she was still the second Ontario runner to finish, just behind Fanshawe’s Katie Rice – her rival runner all season long. The coaching and college staff were proud no matter the placement, as Catherine led the team and year with excellence in and out of competitions.

“Catherine should be proud of herself,” said head coach Darren Mancini. “Her performances and her ability to lead the team this year was nothing short of amazing,” added Mancini.

Irwin, a Kingston native (Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School), and 2-year fitness and health promotion student-athlete, wraps up her academic program this year at St. Lawrence College.
